Millenium Forum
The Millennium Forum, situated between the Richmond Centre and Foyleside is Ireland’s largest purpose-built theatre, seating up to 1,100 people. The complex comprises a state-of-the-art auditorium, conference facilities, retail outlets, bars, restaurant and a coffee shop. It stages high quality local and international performances. Ebrington Centre & Waterside Theatre
This Waterside entertainment complex houses a theatre, small cinema and a bar and restaurant. T: 7131 4000; www.watersidetheatre.com.
Nerve Centre
The Nerve Centre, 7-8 Magazine Street, is a modern, purpose-built licensed entertainment and media training centre catering for live music and DJs on a regular basis. T: 7126 0562; www.nerve-centre.org.uk.
St Columb's Hall
St Columb’s Hall, has recently been temporarily housing the Playhouse events programme and has traditionally been the venue of choice for a variety of musical and dramatic performances, seating up to 1,000 people. T: 7126 2880.
Verbal Arts Centre
Situated in the old First Derry Primary School at the southwest corner of Derry’s Walls, the Verbal Arts Centre hosts regular book launches, children’s events, literary readings, traditional storytelling and drama productions and classes. An Irish cultural venue in Great James Street hosting traditional music, poetry readings, drama and dance. Undergoing renovations but some events will still be held at nearby Gaelaras offices. T: 7126 4132; www.gaelaras.ie.
Guildhall
The Guildhall is an excellent concert venue with a 700-seater main hall housing the magnificent Guildhall organ. It is acknowledged to be acoustically superb and hosts many fine events during the year, including orchestral concerts, organ recitals, dancing championships and the annual feiseanna. Its Minor Hall seats 100. T: 7137 7335.
Gasyard Centre
A unique multicultural arts centre developed on the site of the old gasyard on Lecky Road. It hosts art exhibitions, music events, conferences, recreation and educational classes. T: 7126 2812; www.freederry.org.
Playhouse Theatre
The Playhouse in Artillery Street, founded in 1992, has become one of the largest, and busiest, art centres in Ireland. The multi-disciplinary centre secured funding for a major refurbishment between 2007-09. It now houses a dance studio and art gallery and is home to a variety of arts and cultural groups. It has an educational outreach facility and commissions new theatre work. The Playhouse also hosts the hugely successful Magners Big Tickle Comedy Festival - attracting a list of big names year in year out. T: 7126 8027; www.derryplayhouse.co.uk.
Family Fun
The city has a great selection of family attractions from museums and historical sites to sports centres and parks. Families will find a number of these attractions within a very short distance of the centre. The city also hosts a number of theatres, galleries, music venues and an omniplex cinema.
