THE SUN SHINES INTO RICHMOND

A £1 million refurbishment project has now finished at the Richmond Centre, allowing light to flood in through a beautifully designed glass top roof.

Fergal Rafferty, Centre Manager explains; “The aim of the refurbishment was to upgrade the existing finishes in the Centre using carefully chosen materials which complement a modern shopping environment. There were certain criteria in the design brief which included increasing natural light to provide a light and airy shopping environment and also to provide a general feeling of warmth and comfort. We feel that this has been achieved very effectively”.

In addition to the third floor work extensive changes have taken place outside Louis’ Café at the Shipquay Street entrance. The exterior has been given a continental, café society feel that wouldn’t look out of place in Dublin’s trendy Temple Bar. A perfect place to spend a summer afternoon with some friends and a latté!Richmond Centre has already undergone something of a transformation in the past couple of years with the arrival of a New Look Superstore, Mexx Clothing, Holland & Barratt, Bonmarche, HPJ, Original Shoe Company, HMV Superstore, Bargain Books, Ben & Jerry’s and Argento. These developments combined with new shop refits in Yellow Moon, International, Fosters, Morgan, and Claire’s Accessories add to what can only be described as an excellent array of Tenants to fulfil consumer-shopping requirements!

Fergal Rafferty, Centre Manager, said, “We are very proud of what the centre stands for and has achieved in terms of inward investment and job creation for the people of Derry and its catchment area. The amount of investment in the centre by tenants and Landlord over the past 12 to18 months is a strong indicator of the confidence within the scheme. There are approximately 450 people currently employed directly in the Centre and this is set to increase as the scheme is on a new and exciting stage of its 20th year in existence."

Richmond since its inception in 1984 has had continuous investment and growth, which has, maintained its position at the cutting edge of retailing in the North West. With so much to offer Richmond Centre looks set to go from strength to strength.
